L’Amérique du Sud ne serait-elle pas devenue des siècles après sa découverte la nouvelle « terre promise » du métal? De tous ses pays surgissent des formations plus talentueuses les unes que les autres… On se dirige aujourd’hui vers le Chili qui propose un groupe de Pagan Folk vraiment immanquable pour ceux qui ne jurent que par Mägo de Oz, Lepöka ou encore Saurom…
1- Merci d’avance pour cette interview. J’aimerais que vous reveniez un peu en arrière et que vous nous expliquiez comment le goût de la musique est né.
Eh bien, merci beaucoup pour cette interview et pour la diffusion de notre musique. Les membres de notre groupe sont des musiciens autodidactes, certains avec plus d’expériences musicales que d’autres.
2- En quelle année est née BRISELAS, comment est-ce arrivé?
BRISELAS a commencé en 2004, à la suite de la dissolution d’un groupe appelé Lejía dans lequel j’ai joué. Un fan de ce groupe m’a proposé de créer un nouveau groupe, même s’il ne jouait pas encore d’instrument. Cependant, il était prêt à apprendre. Il a acheté un violon, nous avons cherchés des musiciens et c’était la genèse de BRISELAS.
3- Qui sont les BRISELAS, d’où viennent-ils? Présentez-vous …
Le groupe est né dans la ville de Temuco, dans le sud du Chili, mais maintenant nous sommes basés à Santiago du Chili. Le groupe est composé de personnes des deux villes: Juan Pablo Yañez à la voix et à la basse, Claudia Salamanca voix et choeurs, Alain Duchens et Rodrigo Guajardo aux guitares, Ariel Maringer aux flûtes, Yas Millaleo au violon, Gerardo Fabres à la batterie et moi Danilo Contreras aux claviers et aux chœurs.
4- Comment fonctionne votre processus créatif?
Il fonctionne avec des compositions personelles que nous travaillons ensuite ensemble une fois composé de la manière la plus complète possible, puis nous voyons les détails ensemble et définissons les solos.
5- Comment définissez-vous votre son?
Notre son mêle la puissance des guitares et la batterie rock et heavy metal à la chaleur d’instruments classiques tels que le violon et la flûte, nous sommes une fusion de Folk Métal.
6- Quelles sont vos plus grandes influences?
Los Jaivas, Saurom, Haggard, Mägo de Oz, Stratovarius, Nightwish, Iron Maiden, Metallica, Avalanch, Warcry.

Je vois la discographie comme un voyage de reconnaissance, ainsi nous avons commencé à écouter des groupes européens, le premier EP a pour thème l’Inquisition de l’église, puis nous sommes passés par la Méso-Amérique dans le second, jusqu’à ce que nous atteignions le LP, où nous avons pris des éléments locaux pour présenter eles légendes et les mythes de notre culture. « Tierra de poetas » est une invitation à connaître le Chili, le Chili profond, le Chili natal.
8- Comment vous définissez-vous en concert?
Nous avons un son solide, puissant et travaillé, et nous essayons de combiner cela avec une offre sur scène qui implique le public. Nous choisissons les chansons de chaque représentation en pensant à un mélange d’émotions, dans lequel il y a des moments plus forts et d’autres avec des airs un peu plus soft. Nous voulons que les gens repartent avec beaucoup de sensations vécues dans notre spectacle.
9- Le Chili est actuellement un pays en crise. Cela a-t-il une influence sur votre musique?
C’est vrai, le Chili est un pays avec une profonde crise d’inégalités, nous ne sommes pas un groupe qui parle directement de ces problèmes, mais au fil de nos sujets, nous promotionons les mythes et les légendes de nos peuples autochtones, dont la lutte pour résister et maintenir leur culture a également été visible dans la crise sociale au Chili. Nous avons fait quelques allusions à ce sujet dans des articles sur nos réseaux sociaux, car c’est un sujet qui nous tient à cœur au sein du groupe.
10- Parlez-nous de la scène metal au Chili?
Il y a beaucoup de métal au Chili, beaucoup de groupes et beaucoup de gens qui écoutent du métal. Quant à la scène elle-même, en général elle est précaire: les lieux qui proposent des concerts ne paient généralement pas les groupes et les formations ne sont pas professionnelles et ne vivent pas de la musique, généralement les membres doivent travailler dans l’enseignement ou dans des magasins de musique ou d’autres activités pour survivre.
11- Si le groupe était un animal, lequel serait-il?
Nous serions un condor comme celui que nous avons utilisé comme icône, un oiseau lourd qui a du mal à prendre son envol, mais quand il est en l’air, il est majestueux.
12- Plans pour l’avenir …
Dans un proche avenir, nous continuons à écrire et à travailler sur du nouveau matériel, nous n’avons pas encore les détails, mais nous y travaillons.

2- In what year are BRISELAS born, how did it happen?
BRISELAS started in 2004, as a result of the dissolution of a band called Lejía in which I played. 4- How does your creative process work?
It works with individual compositions that we then work together once it has been composed in the most complete way possible, then we see details together and define the solos.
5- How do you define your sound?
Our sound mixes the power of rock and heavy metal guitars and drums with the warmth of classical instruments such as the violin and flute, we are a fusion of folkmetal.
6- What are your biggest influences?

I see the discography as a journey of recognition, as well as we started listening to European bands, the first EP took the theme of the Inquisition of the church, then we went through Mesoamerica in the second, until we reached the LP, where we took local elements to present and resignify legends and myths of our culture. « Tierra de poetas » is an invitation to know Chile, the deep Chile, the native Chile.
8- How do you define yourself live?
We have a solid, powerful, worked sound, and we try to combine that with a proposal on stage that involves the audience. We choose the songs in each performance thinking of a mixture of emotions, in which there are stronger moments and others with somewhat softer tunes. We want people to leave with a lot of sensations experienced in the show.
9- Chile at the moment is a country in crisis. Does this have any influence on your music?
That’s right, Chile is a country with a deep inequality crisis, we are not a band that speaks directly about these issues, but along our topics we rescue myths and legends of our native peoples, whose struggle to resist and maintain their culture has also been visible within the social outbreak in Chile. We have made some allusions in posts on our social media about it, since it is a topic that generally represents us within the group.
10- Tell us about the metal scene in Chile?
There is a lot of metal in Chile, a lot of bands and a lot of people who listen to metal. As for the scene itself, in general it’s precarious: the places that offer shows do not usually pay money to the bands, the bands in Chile live from other areas and not from music, generally the members must work teaching or in music stores or other activities to survive.
11- If they were an animal, what would they be?
- We would be a condor like the one we have used as an icon, a heavy bird that finds it difficult to take flight, but when it is in the air, it’s majestic.
12- Plans for the future…
In the near future, we keep writing and releasing new material, we don’t have the details yet, but we are working on it.
