La Suède n’a plus grand chose à prouver en matière de heavy métal classieux. AXENSTAR en est un de ses représentants les plus pugnaces, mais pas cependant les plus connus en notre terre de France. Il était temps de les sortir de l’ombre, ce à quoi KAOSGUARDS s’emploie aujourd’hui!

1- Merci d’avoir organisé cet entrevue pour nous!
Merci d’avoir la chance de parler aux fans français d’Axenstar!
2- Vous avez sorti sept albums et le groupe n’a jamais tourné en France. Pensez-vous que le groupe ne nous est pas connu?
Ouais bonne question, je ne sais pas pourquoi nous n’avons pas tourné en France, ce serait sûrement super de faire cela un jour.
Mais j’espère et je crois que le groupe est connu des fans de power metal français, et si vous n’avez pas entendu parler de nous avant, c’est le meilleur moment pour d’y jeter un œil!
3- Les Français ne le savent probablement pas, mais votre premier nom était POWERAGE. Pourquoi en avoir changé?
Eh bien, quand nous avons commencé le groupe, nous n’avions pas la moindre idée du nom de groupe que nous devrions choisir, donc notre première idée a été d’appeler le groupe Powerage, mais nous avons ensuite réalisé qu’il y avait déjà plusieurs autres groupes appelés ainsi. Nous devions donc trouver un nom plus original. Et après beaucoup de discussions et de réflexion, nous avons fini avec Axenstar qui était un nom complètement inventé et dont nous pouvions être à peu près sûrs qu’il n’y avait pas d’autre groupes avec nom similaire.
4- Ces dernières années, il faut en moyenne trois à quatre ans pour sortir un album. Avez-vous de nombreuses activités qui interfèrent avec vos enregistrements?
Je suppose que plus vous vieillissez, plus il est difficile de trouver le temps de faire tout ce que vous voulez faire. Et avec la famille et le travail, vous devez prioriser votre temps, mais ceci dit, je pense que nous aurions pu
sortir nos albums avec deux ou trois ans d’intervalle si nous avions été plus efficaces.
5- Comment composez-vous? Vous rencontrez-vous souvent ou jouez-vous chacun dans votre coin seul et composez-vous ensuite?
Nous essayons de nous rencontrer en répétition / studio une fois par semaine pour répéter ou composer, et c’est souvent moi ou Jens qui inventons les riffs ou les mélodies et parfois nous essayons de les placer en studio ou parfois
nous nous envoyons des mp3 pour pouvoir nous entraîner à la maison.
6- Ce que j’ai aime en écoutant votre album, c’est cet esprit joyeux, un peu à la Freedom Call. Vous sentez-vous proche de groupes comme cela?
Pour moi, je dirais que j’aime beaucoup les groupes comme Freedom Call, la musique positive me réconforte toujours. Et je pense que nous en avons capturé une partie sur cet album.
7- Avec le recul souhaiteriez-vous changer quelque chose maintenant que l’album est finalisé? Si vous aviez encore le luxe de faire des changements.
C’est une question très difficile, car nous avons fait la plupart des enregistrements nous-mêmes sur l’album, nous avons eu beaucoup de temps pour essayer différents sons et idées pour les chansons, donc je suis assez confiant de ce que nous avons fait. On a tout donné pour que les chansons sonnent exactement comme nous le voulions. Bien sûr, il y aura toujours de petits détails auxquels on pensera par la suite et qu’on aurait pu faire différemment, mais rien qui aurait changé le son fondamentalement.
8- Parlez-nous du nom de l’album?
Eh bien, une fois de plus, nous avons travaillé avec Felipe Machado Franco pour le graphisme et lorsque la pochette a commencé à prendre forme, nous avons pensé que le titre « End of all Hope » conviendrait vraiment à la pochette de l’album.
C’est toujours difficile, je pense, de trouver un titre d’album, si vous choisissez le même nom qu’une piste de l’album, vous êtes plus ou moins obligé de le jouer sur scène et peut-être que cette chanson n’est pas si « fun » à jouer en live haha: -)
Donc j’aime avoir un titre d’album qui n’est pas lié à une chanson.
9- Je ne vous ai jamais vu en concert en France. Alors expliquez ce qu’AXENSTAR dégage en concert?
Je dirais en concert qu’AXENSTAR propose un spectacle de tueur avec beaucoup d’hymnes métalliques d’une grande énergie!
10- Si vous deviez choisir un morceau qui symbolise votre musique?
Je pense que pour les fans qui sont avec nous depuis le début, « Blind Leading the Blind » serait la chanson qui, selon eux, représente le meilleur groupe, mais si je peux choisir une piste du dernier album, je choisirais
« Honor and Victory », un énorme refrain puissant avec de merveilleuses harmonies, c’est un véritable hymne power metal!
11- Vous avez commencé en 2001. Qu’est-ce qui a fondamentalement changé dans le monde de la musique en 2020?
Beaucoup de choses ont changé et pas beaucoup de choses en même temps, l’industrie de la musique est un endroit a complètement changé en ce qui concerne les maisons de disques et l’économie, il y a moins d’argent pour les budgets d’enregistrement, etc. En raison du téléchargement et du streaming, c’est donc un risque beaucoup plus grand pour un label de dépenser de l’argent pour un groupe en raison du manque de revenus provenant des ventes de disques.
D’un autre côté, en ce qui concerne les fans, c’est plus ou moins la même chose, que les fans de métal sont les fans les plus dévoués au monde et cela ne changera jamais je pense.
12- Quels sont les projets 2021 d’AXENSTAR?
Et bien comme il est difficile de se faire booker par les grands festivals et que les tournées sont vraiment chères pour un groupe comme nous, nous allons nous concentrer sur l’écriture de nouveaux hymnes metal en attendant l’offre parfaite des promoteurs (peut-être de France). 😉
13- Et maintenant vos derniers mots aux metalheads de France.

Thank you for the chance to talk to our French Axenstar fans!
2- You have released seven albums and the band has never toured in France. Do you think the band is not known to us?
Yeah good question, I don’t know why we haven’t toured France, I would sure be great to do that some day.
But I do hope and believe that the band is known to the power metal fans of France, and if you haven’t heard of us before now is the best time to check us out!
3- The French people probably don’t know it, but your first name was POWERAGE. Why did you change your name?
Well when we first started the band we didn’t have a clue what bandname we should choose, so one inital thought was to call the band Powerage but then we realized that there were several other bands already called that
so we needed to come up with a more unique name. And after a lot of discussion and thought we ended up with Axenstar that was a completely made up name and we could be pretty sure that there wasn’t any other band with the
same name.
4- In recent years you take an average of three to four years to release an album. Do you have many activities that interfere with your recordings?
I guess that the older you get the harder it is to find the time to do all the things you want to do. And with family and work you have to prioritize what to do with your time, but with that said I think we could have
managed to release the albums with two to three years apart instead if we had been more efficient.
5- How do you compose? Do you meet often or do you play the parts each on your own and put it together afterwards?
We try to meet in the rehearsal/studio once a week to either rehearse or compose, and it’s often me or Jens that comes up with the riffs or melodies and sometimes we try to put it togehter in the studio or sometimes
we send mp3:s to eachother so we can practice at home.
6- What I liked after hearing the album once, was this joyful spirit, unlike the Feedom Call cds. Do you feel close to bands like that?
For me I would say that I really like bands like Freedom Call, positive music always cheers me up. And I think that we have captured some of that on this album.
7- Would you change anything now that the album is finalized? If you still had time on your hands to make any changes.
That’s a really hard question, as we did most of the recordings ourselves on the album we had a lot of time to try different sounds and ideas for the songs so I feel pretty confident that we have done everthing we could
to make the songs sound just like we wanted them to do. Of course there will always be small details that you think of afterwards that you could have done differently but nothing that would have changed the overall sound.
8- What about the name of the album?
Well once again we worked together with Felipe Machado Franco for the artwork and as the cover started to take form we thought that the title « End of all Hope » would really fit the album cover.
It’s always hard I think to come up with an album title, if you choose the same name as a track on the album you’re more or less forced to play it live and maybe that song isn’t that fun to play live haha 🙂
So I like to have a album title that’s not connected to a song.
9- I have never seen you in concert in France. So explain what AXENSTAR gives off in concert?
I would say that if you see us live you will get a killer show with lots of metal anthems and great energy!
10- If you had to choose a track that symbolizes your music?
I would think that for the fans that has been with us from the start « Blind leading the blind » would be the song that they would say represents the band the best, but if I can choose a track from the latest album I would choose
« Honor and Victory », great powerful chorus with wonderful harmonies and it’s a true power metal anthem in my book!
11- You started in 2001. What has fundamentally changed in the world of music in 2020?
A lot of things have changed and a lot of things haven’t I would say, the music industry is a completely changed place when it’s comes to record labels and economy, there are less money when it comes to recording budgets and so on
due to the downloading and streaming, so it’s a much bigger risk for a label to spend money on a band because of the lack of income from record sales.
On the other hand when it comes to fans it’s the same more or less, that metal fans are the most devoted fans in the world and that will never change I think.
12- What are the plans for 2020 for AXENSTAR?
Well since it’s hard to get booked by the big festivals and touring is really expensive for a band like us we will concentrate on writing new killer metal anthems while we wait on the perfect offer from promoters (maybe from France). 😉
13- And now your final words to the metalheads in France.
